Book covers need to quickly grab the eye. They are generally seen in bookshops and libraries, surrounded by other books, or online as a small thumbnail in a grid of other book covers, all of them desparate to be seen.
This book’s subject matter demanded a less bright and noisy cover and, once I had the basics of the design put together, resisted attepts to add any more saturated colour to it. The dove was drawn, taking elements from similar illustrations found online reworked to suit this layout. The background was scanned from and old sheet of rough paper (I keep a box full of such materials).
Sometimes the quieter designs cut through the noisier ones.
