A client recommended me to a friend who was increasingly making a living selling her catering skills and needed an identifiable brand as well some printed items.
The brief was to capture ‘something of the night’ (rather than anything explicitly to do with cooking), as most of the engagements were for evening meals. A city skyline and the moon were suggested but I didn’t like either idea. Both were more suggestive of other meanings.
I suggested a bright, light star shining out of a dark background. It caught the night theme and made the point that this was an individual effort. I wanted the background to be dark but warm. Blue can be quite a cold colour but on working through different approaches I found the horizontal strips of vivid blues (containing a little bit of red and orange in them) gave the design a lot of warmth.
