Red Pepper magazine’s old logo was a slick, modern affair. Each letter was based on the same oval shape. This was made possible by the repetition of letters in the name: 3 ‘e’s, 3 ‘p’s, 2 ‘r’s and the ‘d’ is a rotated ‘p’. Although I was very pleased with this I felt the whole underlying concept needed changing when I approached a redesign. I wanted to mess it up a little, to make it organic, as if someone had painted it quickly on a wall, but to keep it looking like a typeface.
